It’s Cold And You Still Need To Hydrate , But Fasting?

So just because it’s chilly, not just chilly but freezing that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep drinking water. Here is the deal we are made up of water and we burn it up trying to keep warm so DRINK WATER. Not coffee, tea (yes i know, why is the tea mistress telling me not to drink tea?), not sodas (especially not soda) alcohol, milk, just put water first. I’m not saying don’t drink these other things , but we need 8  eight ounce glasses of water a day. If you are a big and tall you may need even more. If you are cold and want something hot, drink hot ginger lemon water. or non drying or stimulating herbal teas. You will find that being hydrated enough will actually make you feel better. You will warm up faster. You will develop better digestion, did you know we need plenty of water to poop regularly? Yes I know poop, really Toni? When I work with clients they are sometimes taken back by my interest in their poop and how it looks but hey we are human, we must poop and more than once a day. Water helps.

Now on to the Fasting. Lately I have run into several conversations around fasting and I am not going to go deep into that now but I use Rejuvelac when fasting to keep my gut biome in tip top shape while flushing my system. It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I learned about it and figured out that I could make it. Now I make it and do a fast and make some vegan cultured cheese all from the same batch. When fasting I only drink a half a cup a day so there is plenty left for making cheese and it keep for 30 days in the fridge. As far as the fasting goes if you have not fasted before or are struggling with any dis-ease you need a guide. Don’t do it on your own. I mentioned that I was going to the gym on my Facebook feed and I just want to say a word about that. There is a fine line on the subject of exercise while fasting but recently it has come to light that movement (not a triathlon) is helpful to get out the toxins that your fat cells are releasing. So a gentle run or walk perhaps some stretching is fine. It’s better if you can retreat to nature but for me that isn’t always possible and I fast regularly. I will be touching on this subject more. There is a movie that I found very interesting on Amazon Prime it may also be on Netflix. “The Science of Fasting” look it up.

Rejuvelac Recipe

1 cup of quinoa in-sprouted

6 cups of filtered water

Put the grain in a quart glass jar and cover with water. cover the jar with cheesecloth. let stand in a warm space in the kitchen for 8-12 hours. Drain and then add just enough water to moisten the grains but don’t immerse them. replace the cheesecloth and place in a warm spot out of direct sunlight for 1 -3 days rinsing the grains once or twice a day. again just moistening the grain. continue until the quinoa begins to sprout. quinoa goes fast so you probably won’t need the full 3 days of sprouting.

Culture the Rejuvelac

Divide the sprouted quinoa into 2 1-quart jars. Pour 3 cups of filtered water into each jar and cover with double layer cheesecloth and place in a warm spot out of direct light for 1 – 3 days.

The water will turn cloudy and white and have a slight tart flavor. strain the liquid into clean jars and cover and date. refrigerate up to 30 days.
